Wasn’t there a time when we thought Europeans were so sophisticated because they all had wine with dinner? I remember, when I was studying French in seventh grade, how my teacher explained that, because the French give their children watered-down wine with dinner, alcohol is really no big deal in Europe and that’s why they have fewer problems with alcohol than we do. It’s not a forbidden fruit and therefore not as appealing to young people. They drink in moderation and everything’s great.
Well…

Currently there are riots breaking out all over Italy, allegedly about soccer or some nonsense. It’s well known, in fact, that European soccer matches are notorious for drunken hooliganism. Fights break out regularly, fueled for the most part by alcohol consumption. Very sophisticated.
In Britain, a new report shows binge drinking among women is on the rise, as it is here in the U.S. Nothing says refinement like stumbling home and puking your guts out - or sticking your head between your legs like our British friend above. The pub is an integral part of UK culture. My husband told me that when he was studying in London during college and he wanted to consult with a professor, they would regularly hold office hours in the local pub.
I guess what I’m saying is that alcohol abuse is cross-cultural and we need to make sure we don’t glamorize it or give our kids the impression that it’s sophisticated. Because, well, you can see for yourself.

Dear Ladies and gentlemen,
Alcohol gives false confidence especially after getting addicted and has a negative impact on health it disturbs the most of the human sensory organs and finnaly cause mal function symptons making the body pal and dull and finnaly die of when more alcohol is swallowed. Thats why we need to discourage binge drinking and generally drinking alcohol both at home and in offices because our AMERICA maust not suffer from what we know is causing us to suffer. So I advise all alcohol drinkers to start conditioning themselves to STOP themselves and their children including the public in General to stop drinking alcohol.
Question: Does it mean that POP Culture goes together with binge drinking?.
Best regards.

Looking for a sense of direction here, please. I am not a parent of my younger sister. In fact, both of us hardly seem to qualify for this site. So…in some ways I am sorry to intrude…but I am looking for some support and direction.
Earlier this year my sister was drinking rather heavily. On this day she continued a harrangue against my brother and his wife. There were many horrible things said; this was not the first time. We are all rarely together and this was an occasion of our mother’s birthday weekend. It should have been a time of joy rather than a drunken stupor!
This is a long story and I will shorten it greatly. On one evening I asked my sister to stop the verbal attacks on my brother and his wife. It had been a long day of going to the cinema with them and my sister was making dinner while I ran errands for Mom. When I returned dinner was ready…and the verbal attacks continued. As I stuffed dinner…I walked away. “Enough is Enough” so I wrote her a long letter…and unfortunately attempted to elicit support from my family.
It backfired. Mom says that my sister said nothing evil and that lots of people are alcoholics. It is months later and the rift in the family continues.
I can apologize and thus agree with Mom that my sister said nothing. That would make me the wrong person…fall on my sword…let the alcohol win. However, I have already lost.
I cannot find a reason for the drinking of your sister. Most of the time there is an actual problem when someone drinks large amounts of alcohol. You have to speak your mind.
